Fonts

New Actress and Stage name for project. Due to Elle stepping in for my music video I had to re-evaluate the situation of what I am going to call my actress as a music icon and look at creating a new anciliary text idea. I decided to look on dafont.com for appropriate fonts to represent my actress as a singer. In my music videos she is seen as an innocent character, a girl in love with her school sweetheart. It wouldn't be appropriate to apply a harsh text to my anciliary whilst this representation is in place. Stereotypically she is seen as a princess character. One who shows the audience her dreams and desires therefore I need a feminine and delicate font to match this representation.

I chose the stage name Lily Tomlin, purely because of the flower. Lily's are delicate, light and attractive, a flower which is liked by many. I witnessed how they float ontop of water, moving only with wind. I pictured my actress and the way she ran with her flowing dress whilst I was filming, this reminded me of that moment seeing the flower hence my choice in the first name.

The second name, believe it or not came from watching MTV music channel on Sky. The One Direction singers appeared on screen whilst I was looking for inspiration for a charcter and I took Louis Tomlinson as inspiration. I thoought about how long the last name was and thought it would be more conventional to cut it down and create a catchy final name. Lily Tomlin isn't too long and has a small ring to it therefore I confirmed what I wanted my actress to be called.

The font I looked at I took from dafont.com, all authors and names of the fonts are above them in Red. I believe that I have chosen the fonts which do match my actress and singer the most. They are feminine yet assertive, not too girly to be able to lose the male audience. I think that one of these would be most appropriate for my final piece however I am going to have to experiment with them in order to do so.

Practise Digi Pack Album Work

I am experienced in Photoshop CS5 and CS6 and have worked with all sorts of tools within both of these programmes. I wanted to try produce a practice album cover before I make any designs. I own a Canon 500D and am looking to study Commercial Photography Within Europe next year at university, therefore am experience in the digital photography I produce and have created something I believe are up to a really good standard. I wanted to experiment with some long exposure images on people Christmas decorations and my friend Joseph in the photography studio. These images are then going to be used for manipulation and I will add text to create them into individual album covers for some of my favourite songs and songs within my genre.

Although I work well behind the camera of still images I am not experienced in creating album covers therefore it would be a good time to practise I think. I am going to use pictures that I have taken never the less I will have to use some images or silhouettes from Google if appropriate as they will relate to the songs I am going to practise with. I am going to design fonts myself as well as sourcing them from dafont.com in order to get a font for each album that represents the images and song throughout.

I then looked at the images I have created by layering and changing the overlay style and thought about which album cover would suit which of the songs I had in mind to put on my practise album. I then looked at this and analysed the songs I had in mind before moving on to Dafont.com and creating my own typography. I chose around 10 songs to put on my album to give me an idea of what I wanted to design on my actual album cover. This gave me a starting point and an ending point for the album. I wanted to use photoshop manipulation and physical design through sketching to create the designs because they are two different mediums I could use for the final piece. I am going to use a mix of these mediums and photographic image to complete my digi-pack.

These are the typography examples from dafont.com I collected for the front album covers. I wanted to go with Powerful Relations as a test title because the set list of songs I chose to put together for my album has continuity through the use of theme. Each song has some connotation or direct connection to love, through family or a love interest. I didn't want to specify to a partner because there are family bonds within the songs therefore relations was a better word for it, I chose to use the word powerful because the songs all represent a feeling, a feeling that is able to target an emotion to the audience and to the people listening to it.

These are the original covers from the albums of the singles I have chosen to put into my practise album. I wanted to collaborate these because it would give me an insight into what they are like before I create ones to represent the songs. They are very arty and creative and therefore I want to add more graphics into them instead of using photographic elements. I wanted to use drawings that I could manipulate in photoshop to create my practise pieces. I also used sources from google image such as a silhouette in order to create a picture of a wolf.

These are the titles that I chose to use for my songs and the fonts I chose in them. I will use these for the final mini covers I have built for them for the textual typography.

After using manipulate techniques in Photoshop CS6, I used the images I took and merged together from my previous session and added dafont text and text that I created myself. I did this to give me practise on photoshop in order to learn how to do it for my final music video digi pack. That way I have more experience. The way I have produced this project for myself I think that I have learnt a lot about my work and how I will produce my digi pack next year.

I then took it to the net design, I used a net design from a book on the internet and placed my experimentation s onto it to give me practice on how to do it in the future for my music video digi pack.

My Own Audience Profile

The POP audience profile is something that has been stereotyped as a bubbly, colourful and energetic. The genre is portrayed as a trend follower, its popular music because its current and it's what everyone is listening to. People that would listen to pop music therefore will follow trends and like things that others also do. I believe that the things I have included in my audience profile collage are the things that someone who listens to pop music would be interested in.

Filming Day 2 and 3 - Actress Change

On both occasions of filming using the same planning board I produced for shoot day one, I was unable to film. This was due to my actress being absent for the filming. Due to my actress being a high commended dancer her schedule is very restricted. Due to this happening three times within my planned filmed days we came to the conclusion that it would be too hard to get my actress to each time we needed to shoot, if we needed to re-film this would be difficult for her too and would put me behind in what I wanted to do.
I have replaced my actress Olivia with Elle Thresh, a fellow friend and somebody who I know is available for me to shoot my video with.

Because I had gotten the wedding dress I am using for the shoot fitted to Olivia's size I needed to get someone who was a similar build in order to be able to use the same props for my mise en scene. I picked Elle because she is a good actress, is willing to participate in things others generally wouldn't and is a similar build to my previous actress. In conclusion I am filming with Elle for the first time and creating my first block of filming within the next couple of days.

Filming Day 1 Complications

On filming day one we were all ready to go with equipment at the ready, timings sorted and locations decided and then the disappointing part. Olivia my main actress was run down anyway from dancing during the week but gets really bad asthma in winter. She ended up unfortunately having an asthma attack leaving us with having to cancel the shoot due to her illness. I do believe that she is well enough to do the filming now so I am going to re plan the filming for a week and a half time so that we can get it done all in one day.
The second filming shoot has now been put forward so that, that is the the section of the music video that I will be filming first.

Planning First Shoot

Shoot Plan 1

On my first shoot I am going to capture shot numbers 0-40. This is the first third of my music video and will be hopefully completed all in one day. The filming session will last for 50 minutes due to strict schedules of commitment between myself and the talent I have featured in the music video. My actress is a dancer with a strict schedule herself, a very committed person who has little time for other things never the less she was perfect for my role and working around the obstacles would make it the best thing for my video and make it successful. My actor on the other hand is very open, he has a packed timetable for each day however is available to make time.

My first shoot I have planned to do is on the 29th of November, a Friday. This is the day that Olivia who I have chosen to be my actress has free and myself and Jamie are also available. I wanted to check the weather for the day even though I would be shooting inside for this one. That way if I wanted to add anything or use the Christmas markets outside or the train station I would be able to do that with it being dry. The only thing that would stop me filming in Starbucks the place that I had planned would be the fact that we couldn't get/use any of the seating that I planned. This would effect my video because of the cut, tilt and pan transition I have placed after the establishing shot of my actress sat in the seating area.

In order to complete the filming and find out how long I have to do the filming I needed to check my train times. Living over 25 minutes away in a car to the other people in my video and an hour away from my college it is hard to all travel to one place. Knowing I have to be back for six o clock I would have to be on the 5.14 train. The bus below shows that we would have to get the 15:51 train from college into the city center, after arriving we would have around 50 minutes to film.
With none of us having a car it is hard to get the travelling right never the less this is better than not being able to travel at all.

If all goes to plan and the travelling is correct then Friday the 29th will be my filming day. We will have around 30 seconds of footage filmed and the beginning completed with an introduction.
The location I first planned at Starbucks will be used as well as the second shoot within my college and I shall plan both of the shoots through plans.
I am also going to do a photoshoot of stills whilst in each location so that I am prepared for the digi-pak and elements of the music industry etc that is within the brief.

Feedback on concept 1 before filming.

I wanted to explore my concept abit more and see what other people thought of my ideas before I made it concrete that was what I wanted to do. In order to do this I asked three different people in my class within my target audience bracket and asked them different questions about my concept. Having their approval I think I am going to go with this concept for my final piece.
